Subject
Learning Targets and Activities for week of:  11/7 - 11/11
Reading
On Wednesday your child brought home their summative test with a reflection sheet. We reviewed the test and discussed their “glows and grows.” Some areas where students noted they wanted to grow where testing taking strategies such as making sure they are proving each answer or using process of elimination. You do not need to return the reflection sheet back to school.

We are continuing to read informational text and determine the main idea and details. We will also begin to focus on determining the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text.

Homework: Read for 20 minutes each night.
Writing
Students are developing descriptive supporting details in their informational pieces. They are also discovering how to add subtitles and bolded words to add a glossary in their writing. We have been looking at authentic nonfiction texts and comparing how these authors write as our own pieces develop.
Word Study
We are focusing on long vowels in the first and second syllables using the vowel pairs oa, ow, and oo in accented syllables.

Word Study Homework: Due Wednesday, November 9th
Vocabulary Homework: Due Thursday, November 10th
Word Study Test: Thursday, November 10th
Flynn Math
Next week, we will be working on 2, 3, 4 digit by 1 digit multiplication problems. We will also discuss the inverse operation division and how they relate. Students will share strategies and we will discuss how to make our strategies more efficient.

Homework Due: Friday, November 11th.
Content Areas
Science/Social Studies - Changes in the Earth’s Surface summative is on Monday, Nov. 7th. This week the students took a review on these concepts on a site called Plickers using QR codes. They had a lot of fun evaluating how much they know. I printed each individual student’s questions and responses for them to review at home. These are coming home today. We reviewed all the answers in class and students wrote the correct responses down if they missed any.

We will be studying archaeology and prehistoric indians in social studies and will take a break from science.
