December 11,2016

Thank you to our wonderful PTO for organizing a terrific Holiday Shop for the students. This is something we always look forward to each year!
Subject
Learning Targets and Activities for week of:  12/12 - 12/16
Reading
We are wrapping up our text structure skills. Students joined our Google Classroom and were able to complete a few assignments online determining the text structure of passages.

For the next few weeks we will focus on understanding the different elements of poetry, plays, and prose (stories). We will also be discussing the theme of these stories and poems.

Homework: Read for 20 minutes each night.
Writing
Students are doing a nice job digging into the information of their books and writing their “chapters.” We are continuing to focus on creating topic sentences, details, supporting details, and closing sentences. Students will also write an “About the Author” page. We discussed the expectations of this page and looked at examples of author pages in books that we have read. They are excited to add this part to their books! Please have them bring in a picture of himself/herself for this page.
Word Study

Vocabulary Homework: Due Tuesday, 12/20
Word Study Fry Word Test: Thursday, 12/15

In reflection, I’m seeing that students need additional conceptual understanding with multiplication and division. Therefore, I plan on giving the unit summative on Friday, Dec. 16th. You may ask yourself, “what if my kid gets it already?” That’s a valid question and if they have proven mastery, then I have them working on classroom challenges such as pentominoes, logic puzzles, and math games. That way they are also deepening their thinking and are not reviewing the same concepts over and over.

Homework Due: Friday, Dec. 16th.
Content Areas
Social Studies -

Most students are finished with their research for their historic indian projects!  That means we're ahead of schedule, which is great!  However, we need help with collecting and printing images.

Please help your child do research for images (google images is the best), and either print them out at home or
A) copy & paste them in google docs so they can open that & print at school
B) copy & paste into a Word document & save to a flash drive to print out at school

They must have at least one image each for: shelter, food, clothing, arts/crafts/jewelry, chiefs, celebrations/dances, and extra/interesting facts.  Images should be no smaller than 3x3 inches, and no larger than 5x7 inches.

Thank you for your help!
