As the cold winter weather sets in, please make sure you send your child with hats, gloves, winter jackets, boots, etc. Please label the clothing as things tend to get lost in our busy hallways.

Our travels around the world have been exciting! Ask your child about Germany and Mexico!

Reading
Students have been able to explore a variety of poems, prose (stories), and plays this past week. Students are discovering the different elements of each type of writing. We are learning about their similarities and differences. Next week, we will be doing a few poetry attacks and plays in class.:)  We will continue these learning targets into 3rd quarter.
Congratulations to the students who finished their 30 Book Challenge this month! They are now moving into their 60 Book Challenge.
I continue to check in with each of your children regarding their weekly reading goals and 30 Book Challenge.

Be on the lookout for an OPTIONAL hot chocolate reading challenge to do over break!

Homework: Read for 20 minutes each night.
Writing
Student writing pieces are coming together nicely! Students are working on their introductions and conclusions. Next week, we will work on revising and editing our final pieces. Students will continue putting together their actual books when we return from break.
Your child is welcome to print out text features for their book if they would like over break.

To celebrate a great first half of 4th grade we will be watching a movie titled “The Secret Life of Pets” on Wednesday. The movie is rated PG. If you do NOT want your child to watch, please let us know asap so we can plan a different option. If we don’t hear from you, we will assume it is okay for your child to watch.
