Subject
Learning Targets and Activities for week of:  1/17-1/20
Reading
Students are learning about the differences between main idea and theme. We will also be learning how to summarize a text. We will use a strategy called SOMEBODY-WANTED-BUT-SO THEN to help write summaries about texts that we are reading. Students will be tested on the different elements of poetry, prose, and play along with theme and summary on Thursday, January 12th.

Students received a biography book project this today. They should have the book they want to read by Friday, January 20th. Mrs. Voinovich will approve the books for each student. There are many books in my classroom that students can choose from or they may bring in their own. Their biography should be on a person they want to learn more about and have not read the book before. Students should NOT choose a celebrity or entertainer. I may require your child to read a more challenging book or two books about their particular person to make sure they are ready an appropriate level and/or amount. Please see the information that is coming home with your child today. It will be due February 23rd.  Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Homework: Read for 20 minutes each night.
